RFID Material Tracking for Manufacturing & Logistics

Industrial Control Systems, Inc. (ICS) designs and implements RFID-based material tracking systems that give manufacturers real-time visibility into inventory location, material flow, and asset utilization. Our RFID solutions replace manual scanning and paper-based tracking with automated, hands-free identification that works in harsh industrial environments.

What Is RFID Material Tracking?

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) uses radio waves to automatically identify and track tagged items as they move through your facility. Unlike barcodes, RFID tags do not require line-of-sight scanning and can be read at distances of several feet to hundreds of feet depending on the tag type. RFID systems can simultaneously read hundreds of tags per second, enabling real-time tracking of materials, work-in-process, finished goods, and reusable assets like totes, pallets, and containers.

ICS RFID Capabilities

Our RFID engineering services include system design and tag selection for your specific environment, portal and reader installation at key tracking points, integration with PLCs and SCADA systems for automated routing, middleware development for data filtering and event processing, ERP and WMS integration for inventory accuracy, and custom dashboards showing real-time material location and flow. We design every system to work reliably in the demanding conditions found in manufacturing plants, including metal, moisture, temperature extremes, and RF interference.

Case Study: Halliburton Sand Transload Facility

ICS delivered a comprehensive RFID tracking and automation system for Halliburton’s largest sand transload facility. The system tracks railcar identification, sand inventory across multiple silos, truck loading operations, and shipping documentation. This RFID implementation provided Halliburton with real-time visibility into their entire sand logistics operation, reducing manual data entry and improving inventory accuracy.

Industries & Applications

We implement RFID tracking for raw material receiving and inventory, work-in-process tracking through production stages, finished goods warehousing and shipping, returnable container and pallet tracking, tool and equipment asset management, and compliance tracking for food safety and traceability requirements. Our RFID systems serve food and beverage, pet food, building materials, oil and gas, and general manufacturing industries.
